Rethink Your Drink Day Changes Due to COVID-19

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) CalFresh Healthy Living (CFHL) program cancelled in-person events for Rethink Your Drink Day. However, opportunities to promote healthy beverages still exist--- virtually!

The CDPH CFHL team suggests that your organization incorporates Make Every Day Rethink Your Drink Day! in your promotional efforts. We also encourage you to host a virtual event to utilize the resources that are available.

How should we communicate the change in plans with Rethink Your Drink Day to our staff, volunteers, partners, and community?

CDPH has directed that all gatherings across the state be cancelled until further guidance is issued. Please click here for additional information and visit www.cdph.ca.gov/covid19 for up-to-date guidance on COVID-19.

We encourage you to utilize or customize the email communication you received from CDPH to share with your staff, volunteers, and partners. If you’ve not distributed information to the community, there is no need to communicate the change.

What is Make Every Day Rethink Your Drink Day?

Make Every Day Rethink Your Drink Day! is an opportunity to encourage your local community to take small steps toward making positive and healthy behavior changes.

Due to COVID-19, the CDPH program is transforming the annual Rethink Your Drink Day into a Make Every Day Rethink Your Drink Day! Virtual Day of Action. Participating organizations are encouraged to host a Virtual Day of Action at a time that works best for their local communities.

What will a Virtual Day of Action entail?

A Virtual Day of Action involves creating and sharing virtual messages such as pre-recorded videos of activities and recipe demonstrations, and/or hosting webinars to engage your community in a live setting. Virtual platforms can include Zoom, Facebook or others. As in previous Statewide Days of Action, the CDPH team will support you by providing host guidelines, talking points, activity guides and sample recipes. Please visit the resources page to view and download helpful resources for planning a Virtual Day of Action.

How will CDPH support these promotions?

The CDPH team hosted a Step-by-Step Guide to Hosting a Virtual Day of Action webinar on September 2, 2020. This webinar discussed different online platforms to host a virtual event, explored ideas for engaging with your audiences, and reviewed helpful resources to plan a virtual event.
