What is Rethink Your Drink Day?

Rethink Your Drink Day is a Statewide Day of Action led by the CalFresh Healthy Living program at the California Department of Public Health. Rethink Your Drink Day events are taking place in California on Wednesday, May 13, 2020.

The goal of Rethink Your Drink Day is to educate Californians on how to best reduce the consumption of sugary drinks and promote the benefits of drinking water.

Who can host an event?

We encourage State and Local Implementing Agencies, Community-Based Organizations and their partners to host events. Past hosts have also included schools, local health organizations, medical facilities, dentist offices, and faith-based organizations. We also encourage Local Implementing Agencies to refer additional local organizations who they have identified as leaders in promoting healthy habits in their communities to register as well.

How do I add my event to the virtual map?

To add your event to our Rethink Your Drink Day Virtual Map, please visit the Registration page (opening in March 2020) and submit the Event Registration Form. After that you will be prompted to fill out your public Virtual Map listing. Event zip code, city, and event description are required at registration, with the option to return at a later time to add your exact event address. Remember: the event description you enter will be publically visible, and a great way for local community members to find your event.

Is there an age limit for attendees?

There is no age limit for attendees--in fact, the Rethink Your Drink Day Event Box materials provides activities for children and adults. Californians of all ages can benefit from drinking more water and fewer sugary drinks.

What is inside the Rethink Your Drink Day Event Box?

Inside the Rethink Your Drink Day Event Box is everything you need to produce a Rethink Your Drink Day event. This includes an event guide for hosts, promotional materials to display to raise awareness about your event, interactive educational activities and helpful take-home items for attendees for continuing to practice their new healthy habits. All materials are designed to help you host and promote a successful Rethink Your Drink Day.

How many attendees is the Rethink Your Drink Day Event Box designed to support?

We provide boxes in small, medium and large sizes. Small boxes are designed for events with under 50 expected attendees, medium boxes are designed for events with under 200 expected attendees, and large boxes are designed to serve events reaching 300 attendees.

Boxes are distributed on a first come, first served basis and are limited to one box per event. If you believe that you will need more materials for your event after your event box is ordered, please visit the Resources page to print out additional copies, or reach out to your local county health department for options regarding additional printed materials. In unique cases, hosts may have the opportunity to reach more than 300 attendees at an event and may be provided additional boxes. If you believe you meet these criteria, please apply for a large box through the normal registration process and then reach out to no later than 12:00 pm on April 1, 2020 to request additional boxes.
